Supplementary Aids and Services Consideration Toolkit: On-Demand Facilitator Training

Description:
The Supplementary Aids and Services (SaS) Consideration Toolkit is a structured method to analyze the instructional, physical, and social environment of a general education classroom from the perspective of an individual student. The intended outcome of using the toolkit is to identify a list of environmentally-referenced supplementary aids and services to enhance participation and learning for a student with a disability in the general education classroom.

This on-demand training is specifically designed to prepare IU TaC and targeted Local Educational Agency (LEA) personnel to become facilitators for student-focused teams utilizing the Supplementary Aids and Services Consideration Toolkit. Individuals participating in this training are expected to co-facilitate a SaS Consideration Toolkit with a student team with guidance from an experienced SaS Consideration Toolkit facilitator.

Individuals who complete all components of this on-demand training will be eligible to download and print a certificate of completion.

Commitments:

  • Complete all components and activities contained in the on-demand training
  • Schedule, prepare and facilitate a SaS Consideration Toolkit with guidance from an experienced IU or PaTTAN facilitator
  • Submit the signed SaS Consideration Toolkit Planning Checklist to verify completion of the components of the training
  • Complete the follow-up verification survey

  • Legal/Conceptual Background of SaS
  • Definition of SaS
  • Components of the SaS Consideration Toolkit
  • Simulated Toolkit Components
  • Facilitation Tips and Tools
  • Problem-Solving

Learner Outcomes:

  • Describe the legal foundations for supporting students with disabilities
  • Define Supplementary Aids and Services
  • Discuss the purpose of the Supplementary Aids and Services Consideration Toolkit
  • Practice completing each section of the SaS Consideration Toolkit
  • Facilitate a student team’s use of the SaS Consideration Toolkit
  • Share facilitation strategies
  • Develop a plan for proactive and ongoing use of the Toolkit

IU TaC, Special Education Consultants, School Psychologists, Guidance Counselors, Principals, Special Education Supervisors
