This event is part of a series of related events.

Module 5 reviews the rational for a fluency component in lesson design. Participants learn and practice techniques for speed drills, repeated readings, simultaneous and alternate oral reading, calculating reading fluency, and charting the results of exercises. (Focus: Kindergarten through Second Grade; Remedial Instruction)


Module 5 Attendees will:

  • Understand the concepts of automaticity and reading fluency
  • Identify several common causes for dysfluency
  • Practice several strategies for fluency-building.

Target Audience

Teachers of reading and spelling, including literacy consultants, coaches, reading specialists, special education teachers, regular education teachers, and general and special education administrators.

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
